About Malachite Shield
Learn about our journey, our values, and the people driving our mission forward.
Our Story
Founded in 2021, Malachite Shield emerged from a collective of community leaders, environmentalists, and sports enthusiasts concerned about the escalating impacts of climate change on the Maasai people and their ancestral lands. We saw how changing weather patterns threatened not just livelihoods based on cattle keeping, but a rich cultural heritage.
Our name is inspired by the Malachite sunbird, a vibrant symbol of resilience in the Kenyan landscape. Like the bird, we aim to be agile, adaptive, and vital to the health of our ecosystem. From organizing reforestation drives to launching eco-tourism and sports leagues, we believe in holistic solutions that honor tradition while embracing innovation. Our journey is one of collaboration, community, and a shared commitment to shielding our future.
